Shine & Illuminate Extras
We’re so excited to offer DbD middle and high schoolers a chance to not only grow their light in our dance community and beyond but to SHOW their light.
The extras below are currently only offered to our middle and high school dancers at DbD Studios. Our high schoolers have even more opportunities to challenge themselves inside AND outside the studio walls.
Middle & High Schoolers
Seasonal DbD Dance Journal: Journals will be passed out at the beginning of each season. Dancers are expected to keep their journals in their dance bags and bring them to every class. Our teachers will be giving them unique opportunities and trainings on goal setting, how to take and apply notes given from teachers, writing memorable moments and realizations, plus written feedback from our teachers. Journals will be personalized and unique for each season.
Assistant Teachers: Once a dancer is in sixth grade, they have the opportunity to apply to become an assistant teacher in our studio. Assistant teachers are paid $7.50/hour in studio credit and are to attend required seasonal training and purchase their assistant teacher tank. They will be expected to help a teacher in their committed class and attend every week or give written notification if missing.
High Schoolers only
Blaze Teacher Assistant: This is a unique opportunity for our high schoolers to take a more intensive track that will lead them to becoming a staff member at DbD Studios and teaching their own class(es)/camp(s). Teacher Assistants are not paid for their classes that they assist BUT are given free trainings at least 3 times a year, including writing a resume, classroom management, time management, lesson planning, teaching skills, choreography skills, plus more. They will also be given their unique Teacher Assistant tank to wear while in their role. Teacher Assistants will move on their pathway of assisting, to leading small portions of the class, to leading large portions of their class, to team teaching, to having their own class/camp. This is a unique learning experience that will prepare them in multiple ways to be ready for college and beyond.
National Honor Society of Dance Arts, NHSDA: A program of the National Dance Education Organization whose mission is to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance and to foster an appreciation for dance as a true art form. Our first induction will be held in January 2022. Eligible dancers will be given a points requirement sheet to be completed by December 15th. Students in NHSDA are recognized national and have the opportunity to graduate with honors through NHSDA.
Christmas Choreography Showcase: Dancers will be given the opportunity to apply to become a recognized choreographer and present their work at the DbD Christmas Festival at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center. Qualified DbD dancers must attend the Choreography & Teaching Workshop and will be assigned a studio teacher as their mentor. Dancers will have the opportunity to choose or audition their performers (DbD dancers or outside dancers) and will be mentored throughout the 8 week choreography process. Monthly check ins and watch sessions will occur at assigned times at the studio. Applications will open September 1st.
